Nearly every major lender offers credit cards for college students that are specifically designed for younger people in school who don't yet have a line of credit. Because no credit history or minimum income requirements are needed in most cases, the annual percentage rate (APR) may be higher than other types of cards, so it's important to do your research when shopping for credit cards for college students.

Fidelity Investments 529 College Rewards
Through American Express, the Fidelity Investments 529 College Rewards card also has a fixed APR of 16.99%, but offers 0% APR on balance transfers and cash advances for the first 12 billing cycles. With this card, 1.5% is earned on retail purchases in the form of Fidelity 529 Dollars that are automatically transferred to the cardholder's Fidelity Managed 529 Plan account. This particular card also charges no annual fee.
Citi Platinum Select Card
The Citi Platinum Select Card for college students features a variable APR of 13.49%, no annual fee, and 0% APR for the first six months on cash advances and balance transfers. There are no minimum income requirements or cosigners required, although a good credit rating is needed to qualify, which isn't usually the norm for credit cards for college students. This Citi card offers insurance in the form of $0 liability on unauthorized purchases and provides free online account management.
Citi Driver's Edge Card
There are also credit cards for college students who are planning on purchasing a car, either new or used, that offer rebates while also giving the student the opportunity to build their credit history. The Citi Driver's Edge Card for students features rebates earned on the purchase of a vehicle, 0% APR for the first six months on purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers, as well as free online account management tools. There are also no balance transfer fees, and no credit history or cosigners needed. The APR for the Citi Driver's Edge Card is a variable 17.49%.
Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card
Another of the popular credit cards for college students that requires a good credit rating is the Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card for students. There is no annual fee with this card and some of the rewards include 0% APR for the first six months on purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers with no fees.
With this card, students can earn 5% cash back on purchases made at gas stations, supermarkets, convenience stores, even on certain utilities such as cable for the first six months of being a cardholder. After those first six months, 2% is then earned on these same purchases, and 1% on all other types of purchases. There are no minimum income requirements or cosigners required, as well as no annual fee. The APR for this card is a variable 15.49%.
