Tips to Reduce Credit Card Debt
Many Americans carry credit card debt. From hundreds to even thousands of dollars of debt, any amount can make you feel as if you're wading in owed money. Although credit cards are convenient and useful in many different situations, no one wants to carry around a ton of debt. Here are some helpful credit card debt reduction tips that you can use to eliminate some or all of your credit card debt.
One of the first things you want to do is make a list of all the credit cards you have on which you are carrying a balance. Then, you will list out the balances you carry on each card as well as the interest that you pay on the balance of each card. Once you have all of this information organized, you should list the credit cards again with their interest rates and balances, from the highest interest rate to the lowest interest rate. So, the cards with the highest interest rate fees are at the top of your list and the cards with the lowest interest rates are at the bottom of the list.
The next thing you need to do is find out the minimum payment on each credit card. You may not have the money to pay the highest interest credit cards off all at once, but decide how much over the minimum payment you can afford to pay each month. By paying as much as you can afford to pay until you have paid the credit card off, you will eliminate the card that you are paying the biggest fees on. This will eliminate a great deal of your debt. The next thing you will do is pay the second credit card off. While you are working on paying the top credit cards off, you will continue to pay at least the minimum payment on the other credit cards.
By following these credit card debt reduction tips, you will not continue to pay the high interest rates for years, but you will still have the use of your lowest rate credit cards. Another tip is to only use your credit cards to pay things that you already have the money for. This way, you can continue to build your credit, but you won't have to lug around a ton of debt. Simply choose things to pay that you have the money to pay already. For instance, rather than buying dinner with your credit card, use it to pay your electric bill. Then, as soon as you have used the card to do this, send the electric payment money into the credit card company.
These credit card reduction tips will help you break free of your debt and help you take back control of your life. You will be debt free faster when you use these tips to reduce your credit card debt. It will also help keep you from accumulating more debt that will be a pain in the rear to pay off. Many people leave credit card debt even after they are deceased, for their family to pay off. Avoid getting this far into debt by using the credit card reduction tips above.
